Some interesting facts and statistics to get you in the mood for round eight of the 2010 MotoGP World Championship at Sachsenring.
150 – The win by Marc Márquez at the Catalan GP was the 150th Grand Prix victory by Spanish riders in the 125cc class. Only Italy, with 220 GP wins, has had more success as a nation in the 125cc class.
39 years ago – On race day in Germany it will be exactly 39 years ago since Jarno Saarinen won the 350cc race at the Czech Grand Prix in 1971. This was the first ever Grand Prix victory by a Finnish rider.
26 – Ben Spies celebrated his 26th birthday on Sunday between the Catalunya GP and the German GP.
20 – On the first day of practice for the German Grand Prix, Johann Zarco will celebrate his 20th birthday.
17 – Spanish riders have won the last seventeen 125cc races. The last non-Spanish winner in the 125cc class was Andrea Iannone at the Catalan Grand Prix last year. This is the longest sequence of successive 125cc GP wins by one nation in the 62-year history of Grand Prix racing.
6 – Yamaha riders have won six of the first seven races of the year, which equals the best ever start to a premier class season by the Yamaha factory which they achieved in 2005. Another victory by a Yamaha rider in Germany and it will be the highest ever number of wins achieved by Yamaha from the first eight races of the year.
6 – Derbi riders have won the last six races in the 125cc race. This is the longest ever sequence of successive 125cc GP wins achieved by Derbi.
5 – Valentino Rossi is the rider with most victories at the new Sachsenring circuit with five wins (1x 250cc, 4 x MotoGP), followed by three each for Marco Melandri (1 x 125cc, 2 x 250cc) and Dani Pedrosa (2 x 250cc, 1 x MotoGP).
4 – Since the introduction of the four-stroke MotoGP class in 2002, Honda have been the most successful manufacturer at the Sachsenring circuit with four wins, followed by Yamaha with three and Ducati with a single victory in 2008.
4 years – The first day of practice at the German Grand Prix will be the fourth anniversary of Yuki Takahashi’s last GP win in the 250cc class, which was at the German GP in 2006.
3 – At the Catalunya Grand Prix, Marc Márquez at the age of 17 years 137 days, became the youngest ever rider to start from pole position at three successive GP races, taking the record from Valentino Rossi.
3 – Since Grand Prix racing returned to the Sachsenring circuit in 1998 there have been three podium finishes by home riders: Ralf Waldmann was third in the 250cc race in 1999, Steve Jenkner was third in the 125cc race in 2002 and Stefan Bradl finished second in the 125cc category in 2008.
0.307 seconds – The top four riders across the line in the 2006 MotoGP race at the Sachsenring were covered by just 0.307 seconds; the closest top four of all-time in the premier class.
