“First real result” of 2010 for Capirossi

Loris Capirossi achieved his best result of the season to date with seventh place at Montmeló on Sunday, as he found what he described as the “right feeling” on the GSV-R for the first time this year.

The Italian fought back from going down to tenth position after the start to work his way back up to seventh, and an issue with rear grip towards the end of the season was the only thing that prevented him from pushing harder.

“I want to say well done to the whole team because this is the first real result of the whole year,” said the 37 year-old. “For sure we did a good job all weekend, but we made a mistake with the tyre for the race.”

Capirossi was one of only four riders who started the race with the extra hard rear tyre choice. He continued: “All the information we had said that it was impossible to use the softer tyre for the race and we used our ones in practice because we didn’t think we’d need them for this afternoon, but in the end I was the only rider with a harder tyre in the warm-up and I had a bit of a problem with grip. Then in the race I was one of the only ones with the harder compound and I struggled a lot with feeling at the start,” he explained.

“It worked well in the middle of the race, but the performance dropped for the last four laps and I struggled to keep a good rhythm.”

Despite the issue with rear grip Capirossi was pleased with not just his result, but also the feeling of the GSV-R which he said was vastly improved.

“This is the first time this year I have felt that the bike has been right and this for us is a really important thing,” he concluded.
