Fresh from his podium finish in the Suzuka 8 Hours, Jonathan Rea has set his sights on achieving success at Silverstone, even if he warns that his recent win at Brno isn't necessarily an indicator of where the team is.
Following his struggles at Misano, Rea struck back with a surprise win and second place finish at Brno, a result that lifted the Ten Kate Honda rider back up to third position in the World Superbike standings.
However, the Northern Irishman admitted on that occasion that the bike does perform differently on various circuits, meaning he will wait until free practice on Friday before determining his chances come race day.
Even so, Rea has high hopes for his home event, suggesting the level playing field of the new Silverstone layout provides a 'fresh motivation' for him.
“It's back to business at Silverstone, which looked like a pretty fun place to ride when I went up to watch the MotoGP race there,” he said. “Some friends have ridden it, too, and given me a few pointers. But it's a new challenge and fresh motivation for me, so I'm really looking forward to riding there.
“It'll be a tough weekend and, just because it's my home race, it won't be any easier than any other. But I'm hoping I'll get a lot of support and I'm really looking forward to racing in front of the brilliant British fans.
“We have to forget about earlier races and see how the bike is performing on Friday morning; then we'll move forward in as positive a way as we can from there.”
