WSBK: Yamaha pair hope to shine on home soil

Yamaha pair hope to shine on home soil

Yamaha Sterilgarda pair James Toseland and Cal Crutchlow will hope to shine in their home round of the World Superbike Championship this weekend at Silverstone.

Former champion Toseland heads into the Silverstone weekend looking to repeat the kind of form that saw him charge through the field to finish fourth in race two at Brno after an issue with his launch control dropped the Brit to the back of the field on lap one.

While he admits that fourth isn't the kind of result he is hoping for this weekend, Toseland said he was going into Silverstone taking the approach that he has nothing to lose with a tough season to date having hit his hopes of securing the championship.

"We had a decent second race coming from last to finish fourth at Brno which wasn't a bad result although fourth isn't where I want to be," he said. "All the little problems we've had this year has meant the championship has gone away a little bit.

“I'm going to Silverstone with nothing to lose; the icing on the cake would be to win at home. The track looks really good; I did a PR event to launch it last week and had a look round. With seven British riders there's every chance the podium will be all British which would be great. It should be a great event for the UK."

Team-mate Cal Crutchlow will be making his first World Superbike appearance on home soil and said his aim was try and deliver two victories for the British fans.

"The home race is no different to any other race," he said. "I always want to do well and give it my best shot. Last year in World Supersport at Donington I did the same. I especially hope that we put on a good show for all the fans that turn out to see the seven Brits in action.

“We had some tyre issues at Brno; hopefully these won't be repeated this round and we can focus on being fastest all weekend and delivering two race wins."
