WSBK: Max Biaggi’s relentless run hits a ‘bump’

Max Biaggi’s relentless run hits a ‘bump’

While it is a measure of Max Biaggi's season that his fifth and sixth place finishes at Silverstone are his 'worst' since the season opener, the Italian remains comfortably on course for the 2010 World Superbike title.

Speculating ahead of the weekend that the bumpy nature of the circuit could compromise the set-up on the Aprilia RSV-4, Biaggi's fears were realised as an error in each of the races prevented him from breaking out of the chasing pack to Cal Crutchlow and Jonathan Rea.

Admitting to enduring a 'difficult' weekend, the damage to Biaggi's advantage in the standings remains fairly minimal with Leon Haslam trimming just eight points off a lead that now stands at 60.

It means Biaggi can mathematically win the title next time out at the Nurburgring, although only if he out-scores Haslam by 40 points.

"I am coming out of this weekend quite satisfied, even if these are not the positions I could have achieved. It was difficult here, above all adjusting my RSV4 on the bumpy Silverstone track.

“In race two I finished sixth behind five British riders. I think that the home field factor really gave them some extra motivation."
