Cal Crutchlow has moved to within seven points of the Carlos Checa in the fight for fourth position in the World Superbike Championship standings after claiming his seventh podium of the season at the Nurburgring.
While his results were ultimately overshadowed by the post-race announcement that he will defect to MotoGP with Tech 3 Yamaha in 2011, Crutchlow carried his good form from Silverstone to post third and fourth place finishes in Germany.
Recovering well from his mid-field starting position, Crutchlow was satisfied with his performance on the Yamaha Sterilgarda, the Briton now setting his sights firmly on relieving Checa of fourth overall with only four races remaining.
“Race one was really good, I was happy to be on the podium again, especially starting from tenth and considering we spent a lot of the weekend working through some different set up issues; it was a credible finish.
“I was also happy with the second race, I was disappointed not to be on the podium but I think if we had a better tyre we could have challenged for it, I did the best job I could. It was still good for the championship, we are pulling up on Checa a little bit so hopefully we can go to Imola and build on this."
