Ian Lowry prepares for WSBK debut

Ian Lowry is looking ahead to his World Superbike Championship debut at the Nurburgring after completing a private test with Kawasaki in Spain.

The Northern Irishman will make his first appearance on the WSBK stage in Germany as the latest replacement for the injured Chris Vermeulen.

Coming after he stood in to race the PBM ZX-10R during a British Superbike wild-card event at Brands Hatch, Lowry will pair up with Tom Sykes in an all-British line-up.

As part of his preparations, Lowry got the chance to acclimatise to the bike in test conditions with an outing at Almeria, the former British Superbike racer pronouncing himself happy with the progress made.

“It all went well and I'm pretty pleased. The bike is really good; it just took us a little while to get a setting that works with my riding style, but we seem to have found that now. We made some big steps with the bike set-up on the second morning. We worked hard to get there and I am happy with the way things are going.

The team has been fantastic in getting the bike to where it is now. The track surface was so hot we did not get out on the final afternoon. The air temperature was 44 degrees at one stage. Coming from Northern Ireland, I have never experienced heat like that before!”
