The Championship leader wants to get back on the rostrum at this weekend’s Grand Prix of Japan, as he attempts to preserve his advantage and take another step towards a first premier class title.
Jorge Lorenzo returns to the site of one of his four wins from last season when the Grand Prix of Japan gets underway this Friday, and the Fiat Yamaha rider is intent on stepping back onto the podium at Motegi.
In the previous round at Aragón the Championship leader’s awesome run of finishing on the podium in every race this season was broken when he finished fourth, but he still holds a 56-point advantage at the top of the standings thanks to his consistency this year.
"Motegi is Yamaha's home and I always feel proud to ride there. Last year I got my first victory at this track in MotoGP and it was one of the best moments of the season. I like Motegi and I think it can be great for us also this season,” said Lorenzo, who won last season’s premier class race ahead of team-mate Valentino Rossi and current title rival Dani Pedrosa.
The 23 year-old is setting out to score another top-three result this weekend as the campaign reaches an intense run of three back-to-back races, and is determined to continue scoring substantial points hauls in the remaining five rounds.
“The main goal is to get back on the podium and continue getting as many points as possible,” he explained. “We will try to be fast from Friday and start this run of three races as well as we can.”
Lorenzo’s victory at Motegi last year was his first at the track across all classes, having finished on the podium there just once before in the 250cc race in 2006.
