The Moto2 Championship leader was present at the Aragón pre-event press conference on Thursday and made a moving gesture, asking his fellow riders to vote for the Japanese rider in this year’s Michel Metraux Trophy.
Toni Elías was present at the pre-event press conference for the Gran Premio A-Style de Aragón on Thursday, and made a moving gesture in suggesting a poignant tribute to Shoya Tomizawa.
The Japanese rider, who tragically died at Misano almost two weeks ago, was laid to rest this week and Elías put forward his suggestion for honouring Tomizawa’s memory.
"As you know, every year in the 125cc and 250cc the Michel Metraux award was given to the best private rider," explained Elías. "As this year in Moto2 all the riders are from independent teams, it was decided at the beginning of the year that all Moto2 riders would vote for who they think has made best achievements during the season."
"And I would like to ask to all my fellow riders to vote for Shoya and dedicate this award to him," concluded the Moto2 World Championship leader.
