Julian Simon on top in final warm up

The Moto2 pole holder was the fastest round the Sepang circuit on Sunday in the 20-minute session.

Julián Simón underlined his determination to secure a first win of the season at Sepang with the best time in the final warm up ahead of the Moto2 Shell Advance Malaysian Motorcycle Grand Prix. The Mapfre Aspar rider, who will start from pole, set a best lap of 2'09.092 in the session.

That placed him just seven-thousandths of a second ahead of Scott Redding (Marc VDS Racing), who will start from the second row, with front row starter Thomas Lüthi (Interwetten Moriwaki Racing), Roberto Rolfo (Italtrans STR) and Alex de Angelis (JiR Moto2) completing the top five.

Championship leader Toni Elías (Gresini Racing), who could seal the title today, was 12th in the session at almost 0.9s off Simón's pace.

There were crashes in the session for Yannick Guerra (G22 Holiday Gym) and Ferruccio Lamborghini (Matteoni Racing).
