Tom Sykes surpassing 2010 pace with 2011 Kawasaki

The 2011 Kawasaki ZX-10R is already down to the pace of the 2010 machine with several months to go before it's maiden race outing next season.

Tom Sykes has pronounced himself happy with his first public outing on the much anticipated 2011 Kawasaki ZX-10R after out-pacing the 2010 machine after just one day of testing.

Having completed a private test programme away from its rivals prior to its group debut, the new Ninja was being measured against its more developed counterparts for the first time at Magny-Cours.

Nonetheless, despite sitting out the opening day due to adverse weather conditions, Sykes was able to set promising lap times aboard the bike on a sunny day two, the new ZX-10R proving faster than that of the machine he rode during the Magny-Cours race weekend.

A promising start to development, with several months to go until its race debut in Australia next February, Sykes is excited about the bike's potential.

"I am happy with this test because our bike is really new and we are up against bikes with two and three years of development. Overall, on our race run this morning I did some 1min 39s laps and low 1min 40s, where in the race on the 2010 bike I only achieved one 1min 39s and the rest were in high 1min 40s. Losing the first day was no help to us but we are already fast."

Sykes has already been confirmed as riding the new specification ZX-10R in 2011, though it is yet to be decided which team he, Joan Lascorz and Chris Vermeulen will ride for.
