MotoGP rookie Hector Barbera hopes that a switch from the aluminium to carbon fibre version of the Ducati swingarm will help him beat his MotoGP best of eighth in this weekend's Indianapolis Grand Prix.
The Paginas Amarillas Aspar rider is currently the highest placed satellite Ducati in the world championship, in twelfth, and is hoping for a solid points haul this weekend to help put disappointment at the first American round behind him.
Barbera suffered his first and so far only DNF of the year after a chain problem at Laguna Seca.
"Indianapolis is a circuit I like quite a lot and where I hope to score a good result. Nobody has great references there because this is only the third time MotoGP has been there," began the Spaniard.
"The Brno test was very fruitful for us because we tested the carbon swingarm and I think it could work well for us this weekend at Indy.
"My opinion is that the carbon version feels more stiff and gives you more stability in the faster corners, as well as in corner entry. The aluminium version, on the other hand, is more consistent and performs virtually the same in any kind of corner.
"I got a good feeling from the carbon one so if we can get the bike set up around it I think it could be good.
"It is important for us to be back in the positions where we belong, which is inside the top ten. We managed to do that last time out and the objective now is to improve on our best result, which was eighth at Le Mans.
"I am ready to race again after a nice break following the Czech Republic race, which I spent doing some tourism in Poland," he concluded.
