The Fiat Yamaha rider was the fastest in the warm up for the Red Bull Indianapolis Grand Prix, ahead of Dani Pedrosa and pole holder Ben Spies.
Jorge Lorenzo’s last lap of the 20-minute warm up at Indianapolis gave the Championship leader the quickest time of the final session before Sunday’s race, as he posted an effort of 1’40.482 to finish in front of Dani Pedrosa (Repsol Honda) by 0.226s.
Following the Spaniard at just three-thousandths of a second behind was pole holder Ben Spies (Monster Yamaha Tech 3), with Casey Stoner (Ducati Team) and Andrea Dovizioso (Repsol Honda) completing the top five.
Valentino Rossi was running in second when with five minutes to go he fell – his third crash of the weekend. The Italian remounted his bike, returned to Pit Lane and managed to get back out on track for the final minute of the session but did not improve on his time and placed sixth. Nicky Hayden (Ducati Team), who starts from the front row, was seventh.
The session took place in sunshine and with a track temperature of 32ºC, and the race is due to get underway at 3pm local time.
