Italian website GPOne.com says a deal has been done for Marco Melandri to ride for the Sterilgarda Yamaha team in World Superbike next season.
Melandri, enduring a disappointing return to Honda Gresini in MotoGP this year, had been tipped to join BMW's World Superbike team.
Melandri has been a MotoGP rider since 2003 and ridden for Yamaha, Honda, Ducati and Kawasaki.
The Italian has won five races and taken 20 podiums in the premier-class, with a best championship finish of second in 2005.
Sterilgarda Yamaha took Ben Spies to the 2009 WSBK crown and has won two races this season with Cal Crutchlow.
Crutchlow looks set to take Spies' place at Tech 3 next year, when the Texan will move to the factory Yamaha MotoGP team.
