Dani Pedrosa set for surgery

Dani Pedrosa, Repsol Honda Team, Japan, MotoGP

Dani Pedrosa, who broke his collarbone in Friday practice for the Japanese MotoGP at Motegi, was admitted to the A&E department of the USP Dexeus in Barcelona at 10am this (Saturday) morning.

The Head of the Hand Surgery Unit, Dr. Xavier Mir, examined the Repsol Honda rider and a three-dimensional CAT scan "confirmed a comminuted fracture (4 fragments) of the left collarbone, which needs to be set with a locked titanium plate."

It has also been confirmed that Pedrosa has "a grade 2 sprain to his left ankle, which needs to be immobilised."

Pedrosa, who crashed due to a throttle problem, will undergo surgery at 12pm.

The Spaniard, who has won four races this year, is the only rider that can still beat Jorge Lorenzo to the 2010 MotoGP crown, but the injury means his slim hopes have now all but gone.
