James Toseland fails to score in five of the last six races as he concludes a disappointing three years as a Yamaha rider.
Toseland's three-year tenure as a Yamaha employee came to a disappointing climax at Magny-Cours after two crashes left him pointless for the second race in succession.
With Toseland already confirmed as not riding with Yamaha Sterilgarda next season, the Briton was hoping a strong performance in France – the scene of his two title wins in 2004 and 2007 – would put him in good stead for the winter.
However, having qualified down on the fourth row of the grid, neither of Toseland's races would last more than four laps after crashes at Estoril in race one and the Lycee chicane in race two.
Described as 'riding a bit desperate' by the following Leon Haslam, who was forced off the circuit in avoidance of his stricken Yamaha in race two, it wasn't the farewell that Toseland had planned – not least because it dropped him from seventh to ninth in the final standings.
“It has not been the finale that I'd hoped for at one of my favourite circuits but that just seems to be the way that this year has gone,” he said. “I'd like to thank Yamaha Sterilgarda and all of the team for their hard work throughout the season and the support from the fans, I'll be back."
Toseland has been linked to several teams for 2011, including a satellite BMW operation and Ten Kate Honda.
